Ruler scale and Page width

Version: 2008 Operating System: Mac OS X 10.4 (Tiger) Processor: Intel Hi
I have this strange problem. Whenever I open a new word document, The page width of the document is only 2 inches (instead of 6 inches). When I open previously created documents then it is normal.
The problem is only with new documents.
I worked around with most of the options with out any success.
"How to change the scale of the ruler???"
your advice and help is highly appriciated.

First make certain that you have both Office (12.2.4) & OS X (10.4.11) fully
updated, that you have the latest driver installed for your printer (check
the mfr's web site) & that you've repaired disk permissions.

If the problem continues once all that is confirmed you may have made some
inadvertent changes to your Normal.dotm template. If you don't have any
significant customizations -- such as keystroke assignments, user-defined
Styles, etc. -- to worry about the easiest solution is to let Word build a
new Normal.dotm by following the directions you'll find here:

 It solved my problem. As per your instructions link..I renamed the Normal.doc and checked. It seems the old one is corrupted.
Now things are working properly..
