Rules broken -- Please help

M

Max Guernsey

I have a user that has Outlook 2003 that is a client of the Exchange 2003 in
a SBS environment.

All of a sudden the rules couldn't be added. Then there was an unchecked
"Clear categories on mail (recommended) (client-only)" when you click on
this rule everything is greyed out except "New Rule", "Run ..." and
"Options". We tried moving to the bottom, but that didn't help. I Googled
"Clear categories ..." and got some results both at Microsoft/MSDN and other
ideas. So I exported all the rules, deleted what was in the rule list and
reimported all the rules. Now all the rules show up as client only. I
deleted all the rules and tried to make a new rule, but that showed up as
client only.

Then I used KB320022 to try and delete the now twoThen I downloaded the
Mdbvu32.exe tool and opened the users mail store. But when I Opened the
Root Folder" there was not an entry for "Top of Information Store" in the
child folders. I looked around at some of the other entries but couldn't
find the rules to delete.

Can I simply delete the .ost? Will Outlook rebuild on the next connection?

This is frustrating, now the user has no working rules, junk mail still
works, but all the other emails arrive at the inbox and don't get sorted
out. The user is complaining because while he in on the road the inbox on
the smart phone is overloaded. Have you got any workable ideas? I need
help. Is this the correct group?

Thank you,
