Rules not working in OL 2007 on Vista

Andy

I have set up some rules to stop junk mail. The rule is supposed to permantly
delet e-mails with say "XYZ" words in the subject or body, but I'm still
getting mails with excluded words. Any ideas please?

Where do these messages end up? Note that the Junk Email filter works before
the rules so rules do not apply to messages marked as Junk.

Hello Roady,

Yes they are in the junk folder zillions of them...Can I set the rule to
work on the junck folder as e-mail gets passed to the junck folder?

No, but you can manually run the rule on the Junk Email folder.

Andy,

I am not sure if your rule was working and has now stopped. I had a similar
situation where I was moving incoming mail to a particular folder. It
recenlty stopped working. The only recent change on my system were some MS
Updates. One of which was for Outlook 2007 (KB852142). I removed the update
and my rule started working as before.

John

That's an interesting non-existing update. Perhaps you meant to say
KB952142?
I'm not sure how far you were behind in updating your system, but that
update is from a long time ago and has been replaced already (but not for
the reason you stated, just because it got superseded).

Also note that it is not a good thing to uninstall updates. Why it may
solved your current issue, it probably indicates you have another issue
still existing on your machine which only revealed itself by installing the
update. It means that you are now fighting symptoms instead of the issue.
Start with scanning your pst-file for errors with scanpst.exe;

Download and install the February Cumulative Update and try again;

Roady,

You are correct, I did mean to say KB952142. As far as my system goes it is
for the most part completely shrink wrap SW with the exception of things like
Adobe Reader and plug in's for IE (all downloaded from Maufacturer
locations). The MS updates are applied as they become available but I choose
when to install them. They are never more than a day or two behind there
release. So I am not sure where the issue may have introduced. I did take
your suggestion and ran the scanpst.exe and it did find some errors. With my
rule now working and the pst errors removed I will give it a day or two
before applying patch KB952142 and try again. I will post the result once I
have it...

Thanks,
John

Roady,

Thanks very much for you recommendation. I ran the scanpst.exe on my .pst
files and it did find some errors that were repaired. I let things settle
out for a few days and have re-applied KB952214 and my rules continue to work
as before. I am not sure if I had issues with my .pst's prior to installing
the update but have to assume I did. The bottom line is the update seems to
be sensitive to errors in the .pst's and was definately the caused the rule I
had to stop functioning. Obviously because of the pst errors. I am
completely back up to date with recommend updated from MS and everything is
working as expected.

Thanks again,
John
