Rules only on incoming messages

Hi,
I recently upgraded to Outlook 2007. It looks like by default rules run both
on read and unread messages, even if they are in my trash folder... Is there
an easy way to avoid that? Perhaps using exceptions? I wasn't able to find
anything...
