Rules Server Side Limit

I understand the reason for a limit on server side rules, but why can't the
Outlook client support as many rules as desired by the user after the emails
have been delivered.

If the email is in a local PST file.. There should be no reason why a client
side rule or something similar couldn't do the work of filtering, that the
current rules promise to do but fails after about 25 rules..

As long as there is not an exchange account in the profile, there are
unlimited rules but since 2002, when exchange is in a profile, all rules are
stored on exchange. Prior to that, client side rules were stored locally -
but a change in the rules engine moved all rules to the server.

Well that tells how it got broken six+ years ago.

I opened this as "comment to Microsoft" because IMO, "rules" are broken if
you have this arbitrarily small limit on number of characters.

I am hoping some feature PM will see the light and add client side rules as
a feature.

As long as there is not an exchange account in the profile, there are
unlimited rules but since 2002, when exchange is in a profile, all rules are
stored on exchange. Prior to that, client side rules were stored locally -
but a change in the rules engine moved all rules to the server.

The problem is only with Exchange - so they fixed it on the exchange side.
Exchange 2007/Outlook 2007 doesn't have a rules problem.

How do I figure out what version of exchange we are running ?
Version of outlook is 2007

Is there a mechanism for a user to query the size limit on the rules?

provided you aren't using multiple servers and have some of both.

So I am using Exchange 2007 w/ Outlook 2007.

I am limited to 28 rules which doesn't allow me to filter to the level I
would like.

It would be nice if client side rules (with no limit on size) would be added
as a feature in the future.

The easiest is to ask the Admin, but you can also tell from the OWA screen,
provided you aren't using multiple servers and have some of both.

You need to speak with your admin and ask them to raise the limit. Point the
admin to
http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb123981(EXCHG.80).aspx - he'll
use the following cmdlet to raise your limit to up to 256KB.
Set-Mailbox TazeMe -RulesQuota:256KB
