Rules wizard not working

I have been using the Rules wizard to filter out e-mails that contain certain words (i.e., spam). When I get an e-mail with a particular word I want to filter out, I create the rule. Lately it hasn't been working. I've been using different capitalizations, even copying what is in the e-mail itself, and pasting it in my rule, and it won't work! Are spammers using some kind of formatting that is making this happen? I've been working on this for weeks now, and can't figure it out!
