Rules Wizard Problem

B

Brendan Murphy

I'm using Outlook 2002 on Win XP pro. I use it with my
free POP3 hotmail account. I manually move all my e-
mails from my hotmail account folder in outlook, to my
personal folder. I wanted to create some rules that I
could run manually on my personal folder. When I'm in my
personal folder I can click on the "organize" button and
it will let me create a rule, but it won't let me open
the rules wizard to manage the rules I created. At first
when I clicked on the rules wizard I got a pop up saying
that rules wizard couldn't be used with some types of e-
mail accounts. But I checked the box to not show pop up,
so now nothing happens when I click on rules wizard. I
understand that rules wizard can't be used on POP3
accounts, but I'm moving the e-mails to my personal
folder. And why would it let me create a rule, but not
be able to manage it. Any help would be appreciated.

Hotmail is not POP3 - it is HTTP mail. Outlook cannot run rules on HTTP
mail. You have misunderstood the mail account type and have gotten it
backwards.

Hotmail = http mail = no rules.
ISP mail = POP3 mail = rules.

Ok, so I got it backwards. Either way, when I move the e-
mails to my personal folder, why am I able to create
rules, but then I can't manage them?

Try adding a fake account that has a pop account - does it let you open the
rules wizard? If not, find and rename outcmd.dat and *.srs - if this doesn't
help, rename them back to the original names.

The fake Pop account worked. Thank you very much. I
appreciate it. Though it is kinda strange that I had to
do that. But it works now.
