Run Office XP in preference to Office 2007

I'm looking for a way to set Office XP to be the default program to
run. If I type Excel on command line, Excel 2007 is started first.
I've had a look at the SYSTEM PATH and nothing there: doesn't even
have Office directory in the path. Don't want to have to remove Office
2007 as I like it, but I've got software installed for Microsoft exams
which appears to start whichever Excel/Word/whatever first. And the
training software doesn't register the commands I execute correctly
due to interface differences between Office XP and 2007.

No problems running the 2 versions together, just want Office XP to be
the first one run for the moment.

Probably a registry setting, which is fine.
Thanks

"command Line"?

If you are using a DOS prompt you are likely running a macro find it and
edit it to point to the path of the version of Access you want to run.

Made a mistake here: command line, excel is not recognised.

When I use WinXP - Start - Run - excel
without going to CMD window, Excel 2007 is started.

Re Macro, I haven't set up any myself, just a regular install. IIRC
did a full install, I don't like partial installs or having to go back
to installation media.

You could try changing the app path to point to the location of 2002 excel.exe
file.

Registry location is here:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\App Paths\Excel.exe

Be sure to make a backup of this key before changing.

Thanks for that. Helped for Start - Run option.

I had hoped it would resolve the problem with the Certiport MOS
training software running the latest version of Office, 2007 on my
PC. It didn't, so I've emailed Support to see if they can advise.
Really don't want to spend a day uninstalling and re-installing Office
2007. Searching the registry didn't shed any light for me...

You're welcome!

I wasn't aware that you had two problems. Your posts aren't too clear in that
regard (at least to me). I hope you get a response from Certiport tech support.
If not, please post again with a clearer description of the problem.
