I receive this error on my Windows 2000 Pro machine with Microsoft
Office XP Small Business Edition when I am trying to print a letter
from my third party application using a document that is stored on
another workstation and trying to insert a jpeg file that is in my
C:\winnt\temp folder. My third party application sends the jpeg to my
local temp folder, where Word is supposed to pick it up and insert it
into my document. However, instead of looking at my local Temp folder
on the computer I am printing from, Word is looking at the temp folder
on the workstation where the document is stored. Since the jpeg is not
on that computer, Word returns the RTE 1286 error message to me. If I
use Microsoft Office XP professional, this error does not happen
because that version of Word is pulling the jpeg file from the local
temp folder. However, if I uninstall Microsoft Office XP SBE and
reinstall Office XP Pro, the error still happens. There seems to be
some file, or registry setting that Small Business Edition installs
(but that the Professional Edition doesn't) that causes Word to try to
use the Temp folder of the wrong computer. I can’t solve the
error by merely uninstalling the Office XP SBE edition and
reinstalling Office XP Pro. I have to re-format my computer and
install Office XP Pro to solve the problem. If I copy the document to
my local computer and try to print it I don't receive an error. Is
there a setting I can change in Small Business edition of Word to
have it go to the local Temp folder instead of the temp folder of the
computer the document is stored on to solve this? Or is there a
registry setting or file I can remove when I uninstall SBE so that I
can reinstall the Professional Edition without having to reformat my
computer?
