Run time error when starting excel

Every time I start Excel i get the following (in german):
Run time error '9' . Index is beyond the allowed
range.
how can i delete this error message.

I am suggesting same as a prior post. Try starting excel
in it's safe mode. Start->Run->excel /s

Need to determine if error is preventing a basic launch of
excel (before) or later on (like a startup macro or add-
in).
