runaway cursor

When I am typing in Word 2007 the cursor jumps randomly to another line or
place on the page(same behavior with outlook 2007). Can anyone help?

Is this a laptop with a touchpad? The usual reason is that the touchpad is
oversensitive and is simulating a mouse click. You should be able to
desensitize the touchpad or disable the click option in the touchpad
setting.

Yes it is a laptop withy a touchpad but I don't know how to get at thye
settings for it.
Help?

Usually, the Touchpad is an applet in the Control Panel - sometime under the
Mouse applet. If not, look through the installed Apps under the Start menu.
You may get a clue by looking in Device Manager to see which Touchpad is
installed (Synaptic for instance) and see if you can find the program group.
