Running Access 97 when having to use Access XP runtime too.

We are running software on our systems that require the
Access XP runtime library. The users need Access 97 for
testing purposes also, when they have used the program, it
resets the program associations to the XP verion of Access.

Is there a way to prevent this from happening?
