running differences between successive records

I would like to subtract, in a quiery, one date from the
preios record's date for all the records. Example:

date of purchase Difference
August 12/2003 0
August 14/2003 2
August 15/2003 1

and so on.

I have taught myself Access ut have not learned the
languages so I would like to do this from a build command
or zoom in a query.
