Running Office2007B2TR and Office 2003

I

Iain

Hello Guys,

I have been using Office 2007 B2 for a while now, whilst also running Office
2003 for all my important stuff!

I could use them both just as normal, but now when I swap between them, I
get the Installing.... box in 2003 and Configuring.... box in 2007B2TR, that
are really annoying and take 5-7min to go away. After that, both programs run
normally until the next time I swap between them.

Is 2003 compatable with 2007B2TR??

Thanks for your help.

Run Office Diagnostics (a 2007 application) and see if that resolves the
issue.

I have 2003 and 2007 installed side-by-side here as well. The only
program that brings up the installing dialog is Word 2003, and that
reliably every time I start it.
How did you install them? In what order?

Yes, it is Word that brings up the installtaion dialogs, but both 2003 and
2007.

I installed 2003 and then 2007, then the 2007 B2TR patch, in that order.

Thanks very much for your help,

Iain

Do you get any error messages?
Best suggestion I can give you right now is to simply just use one of
the two (I'd pick 2007).

What you have described is typical of having two versions of Office
installed - the only difference is the installer seems to take longer
with each version. ;-)

What happens is the version is taking "ownership" of various
information such as the file associations, it's registering itself as
the program to use when Word is needed, and so on.

I encounter the installer if I switch to Word 2003. If I allow the
installer to run then Word 2003 becomes the default version of Word.
Now, I don't encounter it when I switch to Word 2007. As for
compatibility, Microsoft has never recommended side-by-side
installations.

Try going to Start/Run, click the Browse button and locate winword.exe
for Word 2007. Then back on the Run command, add a space and /r at the
end. The command would look something like:

"C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\OFFICE12\WINWORD.EXE" /r

You'll see a Configuration dialog box that may take a couple minutes
but hopefully it will rectify the installer issue for Word 2007.

Then, as Patrick noted, stick with one version. :)

I don't see Word 2003 taking ownership anymore with B2TR after I ran
2007 Office Diagnostics once. However I still get the annoying install
dialog, but it seems to be about something SharePoint related (I posted
in the private beta newsgroups about this).
