running queries from a text box in a form and displaying results in a subform???

Hi peoples,
Hey I was wondering how to do a search for records from
multiple tables using a text box and button on a form and
also have the subform greyed out/not
visible till the search matches the query from the text
box?
eg. showing the record match from the specified table in
the subform.
any code examples anyone can share?
