runtime error '5'

Recently upgraded to XP. Now every time I open word or
excel a visual basic window opens with a runtime error '5'
invalid procedure call or argument. C++ is installed
with debugger is this causing my problem? If YES how do
correct it. If the answer is NO, what is causing the
error and how do I correct. I can click ok and it goes
away and I can continue with word or excel. It is just
annoying me at this point.
