Runtime error shuts down Word on startup

Something has happened to my Microsoft Word 2002which is part of my Microsoft
Office XP. All of a sudden I am getting an error:
Microsoft Visual C++ Runtime Library
Runtime error!
Program: C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office 10\WINWORD.EXE

This application has requested the Runtime to terminate it in an unusual
way. Please contact the application's support team for more information.

What do I do with this?
