"runtime expired"

John

A friend is getting a message from Word saying "runtime has expired. Word
will close down". Word then immediately closes down, with no chance to save
data. Windows continues to function, and Word can then be restarted, but
will eventually close down again.

Any ideas about why, or what to do?

I bet it doesn't say Runtime Expired!

This is typical where an incompatible or badly written third party add-in is
conflicting in Word. Try starting Word in Safe Mode and testing. From Start,
Run type in

winword /a

and press enter. Word will start in its vanilla mode bypassing all add-ins,
templates, macros, customizations, etc. Is Word stable like this?
