RUNTIME IN NETWORK

Hi Guys,
I need your help urgently.
I developed an application with Access 2002/2003, split into front and
back-ends and packaged it using Developer 2002. It has worked fine on most
machines that have installed it. However, I have received complaints about
some databases that were "messed up" after installing my application
(packaged with Access runtime).

Now, the same application needs to be used in a network environment where I
do not know the machines or the programs that are on them. Moreover, I will
not be there to link the front and back-ends for the network.

I hear that it is possible to install only the runtime (of the Office
Developer 2002 that I have) on a machine without packaging it with the front
end. It sounds attractive to me but I still need to know how to do it. Plus,
I need to know how to do the linking of the two ends for any type of network.
Finally, how can I know in advance if Access Runtime will "mess up" a client
machine? Is there something I can do about this?

You have a lot going in your post, many subjects. You might wish to repost
some separately.

Anyways.

"messed up" ?? In what way?! You'll have to gives us a little more to go on
if you expect any help.

As for relinking the front-end to the back-end, there are tons of examples
available online. The one thing I would suggest, that many do not
necessarily include in their default example, is to relink using UNC paths.

At least, that should take care of my re-linking problems.
However, I still need a way to guess when it is safe to deploy Run-time on a
machine.
