runtime prevents opening word document in compressed folder

microsoft word can't open a document in compressed file. small window opens
say runtime error. microsoft visual c++ lruntime ibrary
abnormal termination program.
if i delete the window or click ok the word window closes the document
completey

Make a copy of the document in an uncompressed folder and work on it there,
then copy it back to the compressed file.

Word requires the ability to create temporary files in the same folder with
the original document (see http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=211632).
Apparently that doesn't play well with the compression.
