S/MIME configuration

How can I tell if Outlook S/MIME Security configuration has been set up and users have selected their certificates?

I have discovered that when I add/delete S/MIME security
registry key HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Windows Messaging Subsystem\Profiles\tester\c02ebc5353d9cd11975200aa004ae40e
is created/deleted. There are a set of keys for every outlook profile. Can I depend on the key always being under c02ebc5353d9cd11975200aa004ae40e? How can I interpret the key value?

I don't think that profile GUID or any of the keys (which are really profile
section properties) are documented.
