same email download many times

I am using Outlook 2003 on this computer to manage my email on a pop3 mail
server (verizon). I optioned to leave the emails on the server so that I may
see and download them from other computers. However, lately the outlook on
this computer starts to behave oddly by downloading multiple copies of the
same email many times. Can someone please advise me on this?

Often this is caused by a virus scanner which integrates with Outlook and
not terminating the send/receive properly.
Disable/uninstall this integration and try again.

thanks for the suggestions. I have turned off all virus protection programs
and checked the add-in list which only had itune in it. The problem is still
there -- multiple downloads of emails.

I am having the same problem and it started yesterday.

Every time I do a send/receive my Outlook 2003 downloads the same emails
again as though never downloaded before. If I delete them the are removed
from the server and I cannot access them from other computers.

If Outlook downloads them again. they MUST still be on the server and
something is preventing the completion of the send/receive process so that
Outlook can record which messages it has received.

Brian, I have had the same problem intermittently ever since I got a
Blackberry and aksed Outlook to leave messages on the server for a few days.
What is the preferred method of trying to determine why Outlook is having a
problem not recognizing that the messages have been received already. FWIW,
it initially was an issue with only one of my 4 e-mail accounts, in other
words it would download multiple copies from one account but only 1 from some
others. Oddly, it doesn't download the multiples every time, only some of the
time. Dan
