Strange reaction to routine office security update. Been using same Office
2007 I bought & installed nearly three years ago. Updates never a problem.
Yesterday routine update but now run outlook and popup says office software
is not valid. Should I save my docs and emails uninstall and reinstall?
defrag? general clean HD? Other thoughts?

Actually it wasn't a routine update. Genuine Advantage has been installed
onto your computer and someone had to allow it's installation (or at least
it did on my O2003 & O2007 installations.) See (long URL begins with http

I have the exact same error. I am using a factory installed Office 07 on a
factory installed version of Vista. I got the validation update the other
day and ever since it's been telling me that my Office is invalid!

I have the same problem, and have used this system that was on Toshiba
laptop... Ihave spent two weeks now trying to sort this out. Bottom line was
told to uninstall suffer lose of work. Buy install new one... I still have
the problem.

I dont have disks or the original key, even though it is activated and
registered...they don not care. The message now tells me I have two days left
on the Office program. All this came on the high-end Toshiba I bought and
difficulties have interferred in my end project for post grad program with
lost data worry.

You would address this with whomever you bought the high-end Toshiba from,
since it is OEM software.

Well Tom and Don that is exactly what I did, Jump on Toshiba which is how I
wound up with Microsoft Redmond numbers...

Since Toshiba was not responsibile for the problem program they loaded the
legitimate software copy, I activated it through Microsoft. Evidently pirated
software is not in Toshibas business plan so they felt Microsoft was who to
contact. But since I am in England without my disk or key codes it became my
problem the solution suggested to buy another Office copy and uninstall the
old one. An extra expense but hey I have a post grad dissertation to deliver
no choice right, I am a hostage. Although everything showed it was registered
to me and was through Toshiba and was activated prior and been legitimate
since 2007.

After fretting over lost work material I jumped in and uninstalled the
legitmate program I purchased before the OGA kill date. Only to open my new
Office 2007 Ultimate purchased online through Microsoft... guess what no tool
bar no way to edit recover anything and in the corner an OGA advisory that I
have purchased illigitmate software... At least the other old one worked..for
a few days longer.

After recovering from the heart attack, and calling the direct support
number given I was tranfered to a tech, who took over an hour to sort out the
problem on this new self loading Genuine Microsoft Advantaged purchase. After
he plummed the depths of my computer trying multiple solutions he found the
problem corrupted OGA files that had installed themselves incorrectly... He
was unable or unwilling to credit that as the original problem only as the
problem to my new software. So corrupted files but not Office 2007 Ultimate
issues I was made clear, ultimate being almost bullet proof. Most
distributors are not expecting the OEM software from Microsoft to be attacked
by Microsoft it seems Tom...also not in Toshibas business plan I am guessing.

I did get excelleant service when explained my problem with the new software
and the OGA notice of illigetimate message on the tool bar...

In the last days of my post graduate program an additional stress I did not
need to have, and at least four days of good editing time wasted... by the
way I did miss the advantage part of my experience so far, I am still waiting
for that.
