Sample DB SharePoint Sites not available

I finally decided to tackle setting up the Sample database on our Project
Server 2003 (SP1) installation. Between the instructions on Configuring the
Sample Database (in Appendix C of the Installation Guide) and various other
posts on use of the EditSite tool, I was able to successfully get the Sample
DB up and running. I can access the project information from both Project
2003 Pro and PWA. Also the Public Documents workspace is working, which
seems to be a good sign. However, when I try to bring up one of the
Sharepoint sites, the links to the project workspaces aren’t working.

I went to Admin / Manage SharePoint site, and noticed that the address to
the Public Documents site has the URL of
http://<servername>:1180/sites/MPSSample_MS_ProjectServer_PublicDocuments,
while all of the other project workspaces are showing
http://localhost:7777/sites/projectserver_xxx. When I try clicking on one of
these links, I get a “The page cannot be displayed†error message. If I
change the URL to http://<servername>:1180/sites/projectserver_xxx, I get the
following message: “The Web site that is referenced here is not in the
configuration database.†If I try to synchronize the site, I get the
following: “SharePoint team web site for “<projectname>†does not exist.â€

Then I thought I’d try accessing the Issues view, since those are stored in
the SharePoint DB instead of the Project DB. I can see the list of projects
in the Issues view in PWA, but clicking on any of the project links returns
the following error: “The documents, risks and issues features in Project
Web Access use Windows SharePoint Services. There is a problem establishing
a connection with the web server running windows SharePoint services.
Contact your system administrator.â€

It would appear that something did not pickup the server name and port
number when the sample sharepoint sites were loaded. Is that something that
can be manually modified, or would I be better off trashing the whole sample
DB and starting over? If I do have to start over, any ideas on what needs to
be done to ensure the correct hostname & port number is picked up during
installation?

Dan:

The act of first publishing a project creates a WSS site. Your sample
database comes to you with projects that were created and published on a
different machine. You'll need to use the PWA admin interface to provision
these sites manually on your machine or go through the additional steps of
restoring the WSS sample content and connecting all the sites to the
restored content.

Gary,

Thanks for the response. I did a little more digging today and eventually
located the sample workspaces that were installed. The URL that I was trying
to use for the sample Sharepoint sites was:
http://<servername>:1180/MPSSample/sites/projectserver_xxx

Instead, the sample sharepoint sites were loaded to this URL:
http://<servername>:1180/sites/projectserver_xxx

Now I'm trying to figure out the following:
1 - Where did I make my mistake during the installation of the sample DB?
2 - Can I "move" the whole site tree to the "correct" URL?

I'm also searching to see if there is an installation worksheet available
somewhere so I can record the values entered during configuration. I've used
a similar tool with other software packages, and it really helps when you
need to make sure that configuration values match.

Dan:

It looks like a clean installation to me. The artifacts are in the correct
place. Just remember that the sample database was built on someone else's
computer, and therefore all the pointers in the database are incorrect until
you point them in the correct direction.
