Does anyone know where I can find a sample HR database to download and
experiment in. I have found many designs but im looking for something to
sample to come up with a design of my own. I've been looking for some time
now so if anyone has any suggestion please let me know. Thanks

That would all depend on what you want to accomplish. Generaaly, Access is
not a good tool for an HR system. HR could mean a hundred different things
to a hundred different people. Do you want to track time off? Hire and
fire dates? Pay information? Training? Organizational charts? Lots of
variables.

The other issue is that privacy laws mandate that HR information be kept
very secure. Access is not a secure environment. Even if you take all the
recommended precautions to secure your data, a $30 chacking application can
open the fiel and grant full access.

If I were you, I'd not store such sensative data in Access.

The company cosist of only 21 employees and may only expand to 40-50 max. I
have looked into companies like peoplesoft and they are for companies for 100+

Not sure how that changes the security issues I posted.

Again, tell us what you want to accomplish and we might be able to give you
some guidance. I still doubt you will find much in the way of a template
because Access is not really a good tool for HR data. Even just storing the
social security number and name in one place using Access is a bit
dangerous. If that data gets out, OUCH!

Give us some specs...

Rick's concerns are very valid.

If you want to track payroll, there are many good programs out there
to do so - Quickbooks, Peachtree, and others. It would take many
person-years of development to get an Access database which could do
all that these programs do right out of the box.

Again - what do you NEED? What do *you* mean by "a HR database"? What
features do you require, and what features do you not care about?

If you are not looking for a "payroll system" but an HR system (meaning
employee info, benefit, education tracking etc. then you might want to look
at Abra - it is under $2000.00. I too am in the same position. We have an
organization that had employee data in multiple areas - I did develop a
"tracking tool" for only the basics (however, did not use MS Access to secure
it - actually have a front end pointing to multiple dbs for the info and am
securing it through NTFS. Yes - creates issues but my solution is a "stop
gap" until I can get Abra and integrate it into our Financial/PR system. It
is not typical that you will find an integrated solution for HR that has PR,
Time Keeping, and the standard HR stuff (as mentioned above) - unless you are
going to shell out some $$. If I were you, I would look at packages that can
integrate as it is probably less expensive to write the interface than to buy
a very expensive package.
