Save a particular document format for all documents

How can I save a particular document format for all documents the I
open? I would like to establish 0.5" as the top, bottom, and side
margins for all documents that I open and print. I cannot seem to set
this as the default format ... it keeps reverting to 1.47" side margins

Thanks for your response. I want to impose this format for all .rtf
documents that I open in Word. I take it that I cannot do this without
a script. Can I not specify this particular format as a style and
choose this style for every document I open?

Thank you both.
I recorded a macro to establish margins and called the macro in a
script that runs as I open the document. Worked fine the first time.
