Yeah. This has been reported to Microsoft. Somehow that one was not found
in testing (well -- it was -- we reported it, but they misunderstood what we
were reporting...)
Sorry about that: even Microsoft can make mistakes. Fortunately, it doesn't
make them as often as I do
You are looking for the PC Word functionality. There is a long and obtuse
argument about home PC Word's behaviour contravenes the Mac CUI guidelines,
so we can't do that (on the Mac, when a user double-clicks or Opens a
document, the result must be that you open the original file, not copy it
and change its file format). So there's no way around that.
However, what was supposed to happen was that when you use Project Gallery
to "Open Other", you were supposed to have the option to "Create new
document from this". That's not working.
So currently, the ONLY way to make it work is to have the template in either
your User Templates folder or your Workgroup Templates folder.
However, the Mac does have another mechanism that may satisfy your
requirement. The concept of Stationery. Look it up in the Mac Help and see
if that will do what you need.
Cheers
