Save a Word document in .rtf, but .rtf not available in file t

I cannot find the Rich Text Format in the Save as File Style. Surely this is
available. The only possible is to save it in Word format (.doc) or a variety
of exotic files formats. I need to use .rtf so that I can import the file
into Ventura Publishing 10 without losing all the footnotes.

I managed to do this for two files, but suddenly the .rft file format has
disappeared.

What to do? I have Word 2003 and Windows XP.

I have the .rtf option in Word 2003. Are you sure you have installed all the
available text converters?

And AFAIK, the RTF export and import filters are built into the program
itself, so no text converter should be necessary ... and I wouldn't know how
to get RTF off the list of file formats.
Maybe just have another look?

Klaus
