Save as and save as greyed out

I have a problem in Office XP, mainly in Word and Excel where the save
and save as option are greyed out. When I try to save an attachment
(Word or Excel) in Outlook by right clicking it, I do not have the
option to save as .doc or .xls it tries to choose all files or in the
case of Excel rich text format.
