Save As dialogue pops up while entering appointments

Outlook 2007 installed on Win XP SP2

My installation is not on a network and I don't share calendars or publish
them to the web (or anywhere else for that matter). I enter my appointments
by typing directly into the day view of the calendar. I do not enter by
bringing up the new appointment dialogue.

Randomly, a Save As window pops up and the program freezes, sometimes for
hours, other times I give up after leaving it overnight. The program is
trying to get me to save the calendar as an iCal (*.ics) file.

I have already disabled all plugins except my antivirus plugin (Kaspersky)
and Microsoft VBA for Outlook.

Can anybody help me get rid of this annoying problem?

Are you accidently hitting Ctrl+S or another shortcut?

Do you have have mapped drives?

Thank you for your reply. I am not hitting Ctrl+S. While I do not have any
mapped drives, I do have a usb connected external drive that I use for backup
plus a bunch of card reader drives which, if I'm not mistaken, are connected
internally to a usb header.

In trying to recreate the problem however, here is some more info I came up
with. This only happens the first time I open Outlook after starting the
computer.
I have Outlook set to open to my calendar in day view. As long as I stay on
the current day, everything is fine. When I click the arrow to advance to
the next day or go back a day, the save as dialog opens.

I have to save the file with a new name in order to get rid of the save as
dialogue and continue working. I can continue to open and close Outlook with
no further problems until the next time I start the computer.

This one is so confusing to me that I don't even know where to start.

It seems like it could be the same issue as with mapped drives - outlook has
to connect to all the drives before opening the save dialog. Once outlook
does it, the drive info is cached.

I can't repro the save dialog but I don't know if I'm not doing it the same
way you are or if its something in the configuration.

I understand what you wrote but I don't understand how it pertains to the
problem of the save as dialog opening and forcing me to save.
Are you saying that if all of the external usb drives that have ever been
connected to the computer are connected when I open Outlook then the problem
won't occur or are you saying the exact opposite, or perhaps neither?

I'm saying that outlook is checking all the drives before giving you the
save as dialog - this is why it is slow. I don't know why it wants to save
though - it shouldn't, unless you are hitting ctrl+s or some other shortcut
that is forcing a save.

Diane,

Thank you so much for trying but you are barking up the wrong tree. My
problem is not that Outlook is slow. It is that it is constantly asking me
to save my calendar as a new iCal file.

Believe me when I tell you, I am not hitting Ctrl+S accidently ( that would
be some accident to keep repeating and only after a computer restart), nor I
am hitting any other shortcut keys. I know that it shouldn't be doing this.
That's why I'm trying to get help in this forum.

Any ideas about what might help this from occurring will be greatly
appreciated.
