'Save As' Errors Word 2002 on XP

I am running Word 2002 on a Dell Inspiron 9300 with Windows XP

When I use "Save As' it frequently slows down with the dialog box open but
not responding - and sometimes shows 'program not responding'. Eventually (
seemingly after a long time) it will show the selected location. Similarly
each time I try to change the file location ( example drilling down through
folders). I know that it shouldn't be this slow. Any idea what is causing
this and how I can get it working at the correct speed?

Right-click on the My Computer icon on the Windows desktop,
left-click on Disconnect Network Drive, and disconnect any mapped
drives that are not currently available.

Thanks - I did this, and I am glad to say that the Save now works smoothly.
