Save as file type, only .dot showing.

When saving a file, I have to include .doc in file name. 'Save as file type'
shows only Document Template (.dot) in gray font. Word used to save
everything automatically as filename.doc until recently. Think I may have
lost something. How to restore .doc as 'save as' default? Tried Word setup
and 'Add/Remove' (not sure about 'change option') and 'Reinstall' (disc
space problem). Am I going in thr right direction? Thanks. Keith

Sounds like a macro virus to me. Have you scanned your system lately?

Otherwise, the "save as" default format is under Tools/Options.
