Save As function in the file pull down menu does not work?

This big white space is for your question. What happens when you try to use
Save As?

Absolutely nothing. It almost feels like the level of security may have been
changed on another program that has effected this, is that possible?

Look in Tools | Macro | Macros to see if there is a macro (anywhere other
than under All Commands) named FileSaveAs. If so, the macro (which evidently
does nothing) is hijacking the built-in command. If Word crashed when you
tried to Save As, that would be a different issue.
