save as image creates margins

i'm pulling my hair out on this one so any help would be most appreciated
i'm creating some bmp images of visio 2000 diagrams. i am able to adjust the size of the page to fit the drawing but when i go to save as a bmp file then the image file has big margins around the image that i don't want
the visio help indicates that i should adjust the printing setup but i have no printer attached so the whole section is greyed out

you can add a printer even you have't one. if you use winxp, then don't
allow it detect the printer for you but setting by manual and use lpt (local
printer port 1). you can add any printer you like, how much you like using
windows default printer setup.
