save as multiple directories in a network

When I do a save as, I cannot find all of the directories that are
available. Only the first directory on the network is visible in the
list. In addition, all of the directories at the selected level aren't
shown.

For example.
1. 2 directories are open: cook and clean.
I opened cook first, so when I do save as, it assumes that I want to
save the file to cook, even if I opened the file from the clean
directory. There is no way to do a save as to clean.

2. If I open a file from cook/pots and cook was the first directory
opened, If pots wasn't opened recently (but before this particular
opening of pots), it will not be in the recent list and I will not be
able to access pots.

I'm finding that I lose file and lose track of files and end up with
multiple versions of the same file. This is a serious impediment to
my work.
