Save As option appears disabled

I've been a sent a Word 2000 document that doesn't allow me to save it or
even choose the "Save As" option. The read-only box is unchecked and it
appears that the document is not protected. (There are no messages that
appear when the document is opened or when I try to save it.) How can I save
this document?

Thanks.

I guess it has probably been protected (Tools, Protect). Just open a new
blank document and then use Insert, Document and the document will lose its
protection. (Don't let anyone know how limp protection is though, will you?)

Thanks Terry ... I just figured out the solution ... the document wasn't
protected. Somehow the document macros were involved. I removed and then
added in the document macros and the document Save and Save As operations
function normally now. Not sure of the cause ... we've been using these
macros for years and this is the first instance of an author having this type
of problem.

Hi Tamara,

If the Word document is a Word template (.dot) then
you may not be able to do a save as from that file type.
If you double click on the .DOT file (which may have been
renamed .doc by the sender) in Windows Explorer
do you get a new, unnamed file based on the template?
If so you should be able to use File=Save As for that file.

Be sure your virus checker is current.
