Save As problem in Outlook 2007

Hi all, I am running Vista and office 2007. Whenever i receive an email and
do a "save as" and try to add anything to the file name it always saves off
the file as some unknown extension.

For instance I have a pdf I receive called pic1.pdf, when I save it off as
pic it removes the extension .pdf and so the file is unable to open until i
readd the extension.

Any idea why the save as feature is doing this? Never had this problem in XP.

generally that is what I have been doing, but that just seems like a waste of
time. Just cause I add characters to a file doesnt mean the extenstion
should change. That issue never arose in XP. Is there a way around this?

Roady [MVP]

You probably had Show extensions for known file types disabled in Windows XP
and have enabled it For Windows Vista. In Control Panel-> Folder Options tab
View you can change this.

Already had checked that as it was my first thought and nope its still
disabled.

Just checked the behavior with Outlook 2003 on Windows XP which is exactly
the same as Outlook 2007 on Windows Vista. Since attachments can be anything
and Outlook doesn't open them files will always be shown as *.*

Note that in your example you are not actually adding characters to the
filename but you are renaming it completely; before and after the dot.
Simply leave the extension and only modify what is before the dot.
