I sometimes wish to save Excel charts as static images. In
Excel 98 this was easy to do with the "Save as HTML"
option, and I could use the resulting .gif files. I was
glad to see the feature retained in Excel 2004 ("Save as
Web Page"), but unfortunately it does not work for me --
parts of the image are missing or misplaced. I noticed
there are now a plethora of "web options". None were
labelled "make it actually work" and taking my best guesses
did not yield better results. The icing on the cake was
trying to use "Grab" to capture the screen so I could
process the image that way. I discovered that parts of the
Excel chart, such as drawing objects, DISAPPEAR when Excel
is not in the foreground! Arghh! Eventually I discovered
the "time delay" option of Grab, but what a pain! Why does
something that worked flawlessly 6 years ago now fail
miserably right out of the box?
