Save As

I have a complex 4 page drawing I made with Visio 2000. While checking out
Visio 2003 I made a small edit to the file. I unistalled the Beta version
and found I couldn't open the file in Visio 2000 (Disappointment setting in).
I reinstalled the Beta thinking there would be a Save As to the older format
but no luck (Really disappointed now).

Well I guess I'll be redrawing it in Visio 2000 so the rest of the team can
edit the file or we will be using the Beta version until the budget permits.
Please untwist my arm to upgrade !

Rule 1 of playing with new software is not to play with something you can
not afford to lose.
Rule 2-12 Backup.(It's also rule zero)

Visio 2003 normally saves in a newer file format than Visio 2002 or Visio
2000. As Paul mentions, Visio 2003 can save in Visio 2002 format. Since
there was no file format change between Visio 2000 and Visio 2002. Visio
2000 will be able to open the file.

In your message, you mention the "Beta" version. This brings up several
issues. The current beta version is for Visio 2007, not Visio 2003. I'm not
sure if Visio 2007 supports Visio 2000/2002 file format. Every version of
Visio has been able to open all previous versions, but only been able to
save as the current or previous file format.

The biggest issue is a matter of upgrade. Currently only Microsoft labelled
version of Visio qualify for upgrades. So unless you have Visio 2000 SR1 or
later, you can not upgrade and must by a new version. The big thing in SR1
for Visio 2000 was to add the Microsoft branding to the package.

(If you are a real gambler and do have Visio 2000 SR1, you can hold off
until the official release and get a free upgrade. Visio 2000 SR1 only
qualifies for upgrading to Visio 2003, it probably would not qualify for
upgrade to Visio 2007. In the past, when a new release came out,
Visio/Microsoft offered a free upgrade to the new version if you had just
upgraded to the current version. As I said, this is a gamble because there
is no guarantee that the offer would be repeated.)

As to redoing the file, send me a copy and I will resave it as a Visio
2000/2002 file ([email protected])

I've got the 2007 Beta and save as 2000/2002 format is available.
