Save button not working

We have an updated version of office 2004. We have approximately 500 macs in
our school, mostly mac minis running X.4. Some are intel and some are power
pc. All students and teachers log in to the server with open directory.
Occasionally, we are having a teacher that after working on a document the
save button on the save as dialog box does not work. It seems to flash
quickly, but does not work. The only solution is to force quit and toss all
microsoft preferences from the library and this solves the problem
temorarily.

Any suggestions?

I don't think this is the issue as all of our users are logging on to the
server using open directory. I will give it a try though. It does only seem
to happen to a couple of users (out of 2000 or so users).
