save date

Very basic question here--How do I insert a revision date into a 2003 Word
document so it automatically updates each time I save changes? I have entered
a SAVE DATE field in the document, however, it only saves the date if I right
click on the field and choose Update Field. Can I set it up to automatically
revise the date upon saving the file? It's a file I will update very
infrequently and I know I will forget to update the field.

When you re-open the document, the SAVEDATE field should reflect the last
date/time that you saved the document /after making a modification/. If it
doesn't reflect that time, selecting it and pressing F9 should make it do
so - in other words, it doesn't really matter that the change wasn't visible
when you saved: when you open, or refresh, the date/time should reflect the
time you last saved.

However, suppose you have a SAVEDATE field in a document that says you saved
it at 20:26. If you open the document at 20:27, save it and close it, when
you reopen it, you will probably still see 20:26, because you made no
changes and the SAVEDATE field reflects the last time you saved /after
making a change/
