save documents to cr-rw

Word won't let me save documents directly to cd-rom (cd-rw); it says they're
"read only," and of course they're not.

If you want to be able to use your documents, when working within Word, act
as if your floppy drive does not exist! (This applies to CDRW/CDR drives as
well.)
Don't use Word to:
Open a document on a floppy
Print a document on a floppy
Edit a document on a floppy
Save a document to a floppy (not even a copy)

Word regularly trashes documents on floppy drives!

Instead, work on the document using your hard drive. Copy it back and forth
using Windows.

A CD-RW drive can't keep up with Word. Windows considers anything on a CD as
read only. A CD-RW is treated the same way unless special software is used
(which can also be used on a regular CDR disk) but even with that software,
you should not be working on the document in Word from the CD. Period.

You should always work on and save documents to the hard disk. Copy them to
a CD with Windows Explorer or some other program if you wish.

I think that you will find that documents that a copied to a CD have the
read only attribute set.
