Save Errors With Read-Only and Accessing Data Storage

Guest

I have PPT 2004 on two different Macs with this same problem:

When working on any presentation, after saving changes for the fourth time,
I get this error:

There was an error accessing Data Strorage: Office:file_name.ppt

Then saving again, I get:

Data Storage: Office: file_name.ppt is read-only. Do you want to save
changes under a different name?

When I click Yes and save with the SAME name to overwrite the existing one,
I get:

There was an error accessing Data Storage: Office: PowerPoint Temp

And get a useless temp file in the same folder as the original file.

Any solutions?

Hi,

Try running Disk Utility's First Aid program to repair permissions and see
whether that fixes the problem

Thanks.

I'm getting the same "error accessing" problem. I've repaired
permissions and used Norton disk doctor. The problem only appears with
PowerPoint 2004. Currently I always have to do "save as", which is a
real pain. Any ideas?

The problem is in the preference files.

Here's the fix:

1. Quit all Office applications
2. Open the following folder: home/library/preferences/microsoft
3. Delete two files: "com.microsoft.Office.prefs.plist" and
"com.microsoft.PowerPoint.prefs.plist"
4. Empty the trash
5. Restart PowerPoint and see if it works.

OK. The problem came back. After a number of hours on the phone with
Microsoft we figured out that the problem is with Norton AntiVirus. I
reinstalled AntiVirus and disabled the "Auto-Protect" feature.
Everything is now back to normal.
