Save file taking an hour = Corrupt?

I have one project (out of several dozen) that routinely takes over an hour
to save in MSPS 2003 Enterprise. Tried to save as XML in order to attempt the
delete/import option, but the save fails.

Managed to save offline to try the binary rebuild force. When we got to the
database, the PROJ_EXT_EDITED field was already set to 1. We set tthe field
to '0' then back to '1'.

Trying to save online now - it's been 20 minutes already and the progress
bar is not moving.....

Options now?

Have you tried saving the project as an .mpd file instead of .xml? That is
one of two ways to repair a corrupted project. Let us know.

Same problem trying to save to .mpd --> save has been hanging for the past
hour, CPU on my laptop (IBM T41 w/512k) is pegged with 99% allocated to MS
Project. I'll leave it running for the next couple of hours while I'm in
meetings, see if the save ever completes...

No luck. At this point given the relatively small number of tasks, I'm
planning to delete the file then recreate manually and adjust the actuals in
from the timesheets.

Unless someone has a better idea.
