save images in rtf as a binary

Hallo,

how to let Word use the binary format of RTF rather than hexadecimal when
saving images in an RTF document? According to the RTF specifications RTF
offers not only the hexadecimal encoding but also binary for images. I would
be very grateful for any ideas, because saving as an RTF is inevitable for
me, but file sizes are skyrocketing when the document contains images.
