Save Word Document As A .tif File?

The subject line pretty much says it all.

I have a VB.NET program that uses Word automation to do a mail
merge and then I need to save the merged documents. The problem is
that I have a requirement to save them in .tif format. I was hoping
that the SaveAs command would support this format, but it appears that
it does not.

Can anyone tell me how to get to .tif from MS Word?

Hey Joe,

I'm sort of left with the same problem and you're right, Its not really
possible with the save as command.
At least not via the regular UI, I haven't tried automation for that yet.

What would be possible is to get some third party printer driver that could
print that document to TIFF for you. I don't know any vendor at this point
but it would of course add some extra licensing costs if there are no free
variants out there.
Well and of course you'd have to install it on at least one machine and
share the printer over your network or install it on any machine requiring
that sort of feature.

It's not nice but its the only thing that does come to my mind right now.

Maybe anyone got a better idea?

The "Microsoft Office Document Image Writer" printer driver can do this. Off
the top of my head I can't remember where this came from but I believe it's
a part of Office, although I'm not sure what version it first appeared in.

2002 I think, and it's still available in Office 2007.
