save word file as word 6.0/95 (*.doc) in office 2003

For some special reason, we have to save word documnent into word
6.0/95(*.doc) format with office 2003. But I do not see such selection in the
save as list.
how can I enable this?

Try the "Word 97-2003 and 6.0/95 - RTF" option.

Sorry, I tried that type, doesn't work.. Why there is no selection of word
6.0/95(*.doc) in word 2003?

The old filters have been removed or crippled for reasons of improving
security. If you still have access to a machine running an older version of
Word with the appropriate filter, or the install discs for the old version,
then you could copy the old filter to the new Word version. The filename is
WRD6EX32.CNV and it goes in the folder - C:\Program Files\Common
Files\Microsoft Shared\TextConv.

Did you mean that I should copy that file to my c:\Program Files\Common....
I do that, but I still can't see such option in the save as type list.
And I also checked the registry of the machine with office 2000 installed
and found some register information for WRD6EX32.CNV. So I think the copy
action is not enough to enable this option. How do you think about this?

I have the missing entry in my copy of Word 2003, and the filter I detailed
is the one that actually performs the conversion, but it is not clear what
triggers the entry in the file list. Even with all the textconv filters
removed, the entry is still present, as is the case with the registry entry.
If I locate the trigger, I'll let you know, but the bottom line is that it
is possible to get it to work.

Here's a KB article that covers the missing converter for Word 97 and
it should still apply to Word 2003:

Since the file is in the correct location and you noted you found some
Reg entries then work through Method 1, steps 5 - 9 to see if you can
force the converter to work.

If not, then move to Step 3 and check for the correct Registry
settings (Note the steps will apply to Windows 2000/XP)

I'm having the exact same problem. On PC's that we upgraded from
Office 97 this option exists. On new XP and Office 2003 installs it
doesn't. I copied the converters to the Shared folder, but it doesn't
appear and isn't in the list of converters I gathered through VBA.
Rebooting hasn't helped. I don't see anything in the registry on the
working PC for these converters. Is there a master list somewhere? We
need this desperately. Any help will be appreciated.

Since my last posting I've found the solution. In addition to copying
the converter you also need to make a registry change. Save the
following and import it into the registry.

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Shared Tools\Text
Converters\Export\MSWord6Exp]
"Name"="Word 6.0/95"
"Path"="C:\\Program Files\\Common Files\\Microsoft
Shared\\Textconv\\wrd6ex32.cnv"

Actually, we have one solution for this problem, install convert file
component in office 2000. But this will cause another new problem in
outlook2003.
