Saved a document but then somehow it was lost

I saved an important document on Word, then a few minutes
later the power went out. I rebooted, but for some
reason the file wouldn't open. An alert message came up
saying,
"Word cannot open the document.
Try one or more of the following:
On the File menu, click Open to open the document.
*Make sure the document has a .DOC extension.
(E:/.../TIMES CHANGE-FAHRENHEIT 451.DOC)":

My paper was due later that day and it's too long to even
attemp to rewrite. If anyone can give me some fast
answers, email me: (e-mail address removed)

It must have been corrupted when the power went off. You haven't said what
version of Word you are using, which doesn't help us.

If you have W2003, try the Open and Repair option. Try opening a new
document and use Insert, File to see if it will open. If that fails, try the
Recover Text from Any File option. If it still won't open, try opening it in
a text editor such as NotePad or WordPad.
