Saved Manuscript Becomes Deformed

Hi

I have a 400 page manuscript that has been idle for four months.
Originally, all formatting was correct. Now it opens and things have
changed. Originally, it was set up as a US Letter 8.5 x 11 Inches in Page
Setup. There were 1" margins right, left, top and bottom.

Here's what's changed. On the screen the document is 10 wide. Instead of
8.5". 1" margins top bottom and left are correct, but the right side margin
is 2.5 inches.

The font and size are set at Times New Roman 12. It retains the Times New
Roman, but shows up at 10 point font.

When printed, Left, Top & Bottom margins are OK, but the right margin is two
inches

If I select, copy pastes correctly into a new correctly defaulted document
the Times New Roman 12 and all margins show up correctly,, but paragraph
marks and tab characters are gone. Also, the original double spacing
becomes single space.

This document was put away correctly and I don't understand what went wrong,
or how to fix it. It's a very important document.

Thanks, Rafael

1" Margin on left
Shows what is supposed to be a letter size document

On the screen the document is 10 wide.

Page setup shows US Letter 8.5 x 11 Inches.

In select copies pastes correctly into the default of a new document-Times
new roman 12, and it also goes to it's correct margins, but loses paragraph
marks and tab characters

Hi Rafael:

I would go so far as to say that "somebody" changed the document. The
changes you describe are not the sort of thing that any form of Word or
document failure can produce (any failure that would produce those symptoms
would be so grave Word wouldn't open the document).

To put them right, use Format>Document to put your margins right. Then use
Format>Style>Modify... To correct your style.

You may have to use Edit>Clear Formats to remove direct formatting so the
change takes place, if you have not been formatting with styles.

Cheers
