Saved over inadvertent changes -- Can't Undo?

A

alimacsf

I made some changes to an excel tab that I didn't want to make. Then I
inadvertently saved over these changes. Now Excel is telling me I
"can't undo" this change.

It will take me 1/2 a day to rebuild what I had entered, if I can't
somehow revert to the older version.

Is there any way to force-override the changes if I saved over them?

Any ideas greatly appreciated!

Unfortunately, once you save, the Undo stack is cleared, so there's no
way to force an undo.

In the future you should:

A) make backups more frequently, and
B) Force XL to make a backup every time you save by checking the Always
create backup checkbox in the SaveAs dialog (click the Options button to
get access to the checkbox).

(B) might or might not have helped in this case, depending on how often
you save, but you should never save less frequently than the time you
can afford to spend reworking your workbook.

If you wish, you can make sure all your new workbooks have the backup
option checked by saving a default template using that option in your
Startup Folder or Alternate Startup Folder. Follow the directions in XL
Help ("Create a template for workbooks or worksheets").
